- BASICS:
-
- Scripter is a simple application that you use to create a Page Maker script
- to import a whole directory of files automatically.
-
- Start Scripter
-
- Set your options (command+O) (see OPTIONS below)
-
- Select Create Script… from the file menu (command+G)
-
- You will be prompted to select a directory of files to create a script for
- You navigate trough the directories in the usual ways
- Press the “Select current directory” button to select the current
- directory or the “Folder” button to select the selected directory in
- the list
-
- You will next be prompted to name the script file that will be created
- You do this in the usual save file manner
-
- When Scripter is finished, quit Scripter
-
- DO NOT MOVE files or directories after the script is created, or Page
- Maker won’t be able to find them.
-
- Launch Page Maker
-
- Create a new file or select an empty page
-
- Select Run script… from the Aldus additions sub-menu in the Options menu
-
- You will be prompted to select a script file, select the file you named
- before
-
- That’s it. Page Maker will import and place (1 per page) all the files in
- the given directory and its sub-directories.
-
- OPTIONS:
-
- There are only 2 options to set.
-
- The “TEXT” file creator is the signature of the application that will
- be launched when you double-click on the file’s icon in the Finder.
- (MSWD for Word, MWII for MacWrite, ttxt for Teach Text, etc.)
- If you know it, you can type it in (4 characters) or click on the Get…
- button to select the application in the standard open file dialog.
-
- The “Recognized file types” option is a filter that lets you choose the
- types of files to be included in the scripts. Only the files with a type
- included in the list will be scripted.
-
- When Scripter is locked, only 2 file types are recognized, PICT for
- drawing types like MacDraw and PNTG for painting types like MacPaint.
- When Scripter is unlocked (see UNLOCK below), you can add or remove
- types from the list.
-
- To add file types, you can type one in or click the Get… button and pick
- a file of the desired type from the standard open file dialog. Then, click
- the Add button, the file type will be added to the list. Be careful to add
- only file types that Page Maker can deal with like most graphic and text
- types (EPS, EPSF, TIFF, TEXT, etc.).
-
- To remove a type, select it in the list and click the Remove button. That
- type will be removed from the list.
-
- UNLOCK:
-
- To unlock Scripter, you must register and pay the shareware fee. A key code
- will be sent to you by mail or by FAX.
-
- To register, send your name and address and the shareware fee of
- $10.00 cash or Canadian funds or
- $13.00 US check or money order or
- the equivalent of $20.00 (Canadian) for others
- The extras are to cover fees charged to me by the bank to handle
- foreign exchange.
-
- Make checks and money orders payable to:

-
- If you include a FAX number, your key code will be faxed to you as soon
- as possible. Any comment and suggestion will be appreciated.
-
- When you receive that key code, click on the “Unlock…” button in the main
- window, type in the key code in the key field and press the “Enter” button.
-
- If the correct code is entered, Scripter will be unlocked. The Unlock… button
- will disappear.
-
- CONCLUSION:
-
- Scripter is a small and simple utility developed for my needs. It does not
- currently have many bells and whistles. If users express interest and support
- for Scripter, features will be added to take advantage of system 7 and a
- better interface for example.
-
- I hope Scripter is as useful to you as it is to me. I save hours of placing a
- directory full of files one at a time every time I use it.
-
- Thank you for your support.
